The essential four-month project will replace the cables which have been in place for more than 50 years, to help ensure local customers continue to receive a reliable power supply now and in the future.

Paul McGonigle, programme delivery manager for Electricity North West, said: "We're committed to delivering the best service to our customers and keeping the lights on for people in Lancashire and across the North West.

"To ensure we do this we have to invest in the network and upgrade underground cables and overhead power lines which have aged and been in place for a long time. We will work to keep any disruption to a minimum, but unfortunately there is no way to install underground cables without some disruption, but we hope drivers and residents in the area understand the need for this essential project."

Engineers will keep any disruption to a minimum and there may be temporary traffic lights in place to allow the work to be carried out safely.
